Missing Bits and the SoCal Tough Mudder Aftermath

Picture
Cold but still nice and dry, ready or not here we go
The Sunday SoCal 2011 Tough Mudder was pretty grueling  the spectators as well, as Cindy and Skye can attest. They marched around that mountain for three hours trying to find the obstacles and figure out where on the course I might be. They made it up to the where the water obstacles were and Skye did find me and cheer me on at the log carry. They got a few pictures here and there but there hands were numb and simply being out in those harsh elements for that long was a feat.

my little support crew weren't dressed for the harsh weather but stood my nonetheless

The race promoters must have been freaking out with the weather conditions. It certainly wasn't ideal for a big post-event celebration. The band and MC played on but there was never much of a crowd

Nobody needed any more dunking and the carnival of tough was up on the mountain

I was up for any photo-op at this point

I found this photo on the Tough Mudder facebook site. A lot of the trees up at the summit looked like this, covered with frost and icicles. I knew the weather conditions were pretty bad at the time, but I didn't realize how extreme until I started checking out comments and posts such as the following:
From the Tough Mudder website: "5/30: Tough Mudder SoCal 2011 will go down in Mudder Lore. Saturday (photos) was picture-perfect with blue skies and optimal conditions to run the very challenging course. 87% finished. Sunday (photos) was the evil step-sister, with average temps of 35 degrees Fahrenheit at the base and 60 mph gusts of wind chill bringing temps below... 10 degrees at the summit. Job well done to the 63% who finished."

Someone's comment on Facebook:
I was there n had to be taken down on mile 8 and treated with severe hypothermia but what I see inside the clinic was worst..lots of cuts and broken limbs but majority is hypothermia..it's all good I am one 'em toughmudders out there..

I commented on Facebook as well.
Jon Danniells for some reason at the "Chernobyl Jacuzzi" I stepped in like I was getting into a regular Jacuzzi, of course there was no step. So I go crashing in, totally disoriented, somehow managed to scramble out. Set the tone for the rest of the race. Managed to go off course twice, attempted every obstacle, quickly feel off monkey bars, couldn't feel my hands, half-way across ball shrinker before falling in, was in 9 am group, came in 3 hours 10 minutes later. Had a blast, glad its over, can't wait til the next one

Oh yeah, and if  you like something I've written, hit the "like" button at the bottom of the post and add a comment. I would love to get some input, so I don't feel like I'm talking to myself in a tunnel.

Jon Danniells is an adventurer and traveler, a teacher and student, a husband and a father, a cook and a farmer, a "week-end warrior" (very amateur athlete) and has not earned any money on these labors of love. When I googled myself what showed up first was my IMDB listing, which is basically a resume for my 20 and then some year career in film, for which  I fortunately do get paid.
