What Is Santacon?
Last year a friend of ours who was also from LA called us at the last minute and said that Santacon was happening a couple of blocks from where we were staying in Inman Park.
So after dinner, Cindy and I ventured over to Little Five Points to find out what Santacon was all about. We both had on reindeer horns, a feeble but well-meaning attempt to fit in.
We had fun, but we were definitely on the outside looking in.
I decided things would be different this year.
Unfortunately the biggest difference was that my Mrs. Claus was going to be working in LA and Santa would have to go solo.
One of the other big differences between last year and this was knowing more about the event and knowing of the people who were participating.
I was in fact attending the DSB SantaCon Atlanta 2012 brought to you by BWB GA and Dirty Southern Burners.
Yep, the same bunch of wonderful characters that I camped and hung out with at Burning Man were back in Atlanta and doing the sort of things burners do, which can run the gamut to say the least.
In this case, some fundraising and helping out with local charities and lots and loads of merry-making, with a bit of mischief and naughtiness thrown in for good measure.
It was great seeing a lot of the friends I made while out in Burning Man and loads of fun being one of the many Santas and Santa sorts.
But Not Too Many
It reminded me again of what a nice size Atlanta is. It's big enough that it feels like an event, but still manageable. Parking wasn't a problem and much to my surprise getting seated or getting a drink wasn't an ordeal.
I sort of wish I would have taken more photos, but it so often takes me out of the experience, plus my camera is horrible at night. The few shots I have are blurry with streaking trails of light mucking things up.
I didn't stay out as long as I would have in my younger years, but I had my fill of red and holiday cheer.
Ho, ho, ho Merry Christmas to All and to All a Good Night
