Bicycled to the farmers market and back, probably around 8 miles there and 6 miles back. Why the 2 mile discrepancy? I decided to just wing it on the way there, trying to relying on my GPS as little as possible. Atlanta's not a great town for bicycling. It reminded me of biking in LA, lots of traffic, few bike lanes to speak of and roadways that don't lend themselves to being shared by bicycles and cars.
Add to that, the bike I'm riding is a dual-suspension mountain bike geared very much for down hill. I was pulling a trailer for good measure. It was a little frustrating watching the rear shock flex with my every down-stroke, particularly as I barely crawled long uphill sections of the route. Perhaps its time to start shopping around for a real commuter bike.
