Skye has been participating in a wonderful Shakespeare program called Much Ado About Shakespeare for the past several years now, so when we found out that they were hosting a summer program in Mammoth Lakes, the Monday after my job ended, we decided to go for it.
That put me near a Spartan Beast. And since I did buy a Season Pass and it's the one Spartan distance I haven't conquered yet...
Then I figured we'd take the northern route back across the country and I owed my mom a visit, so up the 5 to the middle of Oregon, I decided we could go.
Black Rock City, home to Burning Man, is kind of sort on the way to Oregon from Monterey, so we would be kind of sort of in the vicinity when the Man would burn.
A light bulb went off. Skye could hang out with Grandma while I cruised down to camp out in the middle of nowhere with another 50,000 "burners".
And why not tackle an ultra-marathon while I'm at it? Yep, I've signed up to do a 50k.
After that, we're going to try to hit a few national parks on the way back east, Yellowstone and Grand Teton.
Sounds like a nice summer.
