Parts are from a very recent previous post:
I have been on the fence about going to Burning Man this year.
So many of the people I've camped with these past few years aren't going this year.
And it's expensive.
And I wasn't able to get a ticket...again.
And it's not the year Cindy and Skye would join me.
And I have so much going on in Atlanta.
I decided definitely not to go.
And then an invitation was made, a ticket became available and I changed my mind.
I was excited about the theme this year Da Vinci's Workshop. He was after all the prime exemplar of the Renaissance Man aka Jack of All Trades.
I suppose I always knew I would end up going. I should have "planned" on it.
Da Vinci's Workshop--It's sort of been my them this last year for better and for worse. Perhaps a trip out to the desert will help shine some light on things I've been mulling over recently.
There's certainly plenty of light out there both night and day.
My personal theme will be one of balance. I struggle for that in general and out there it's definitely a challenge that I have not always fared well with.
To if off of ol' Blue Eyes, "If you can find balance out there, you can find balance anywhere"
I'll be running the 50K again; really taking my time because of my lack of conditioning and my "funny" foot. I might even start off with the early crew that heads out at 3 am rather than 5. I figure that way I can get some more mileage in before the brutal desert sun comes out.
We'll see how that goes. Either way, I'm planning on averaging 15 minute miles not including bathroom breaks, rest stops and photo-ops. It's going to be a long so slog to be sure.
I also hope to do more yoga and attend more scheduled workshops. That plan often goes a miss given all the distractions that Burning Man has to offer.
Also going to try to see more art. Although I've actually been pretty good with that over the years.
My first year out I camped with Art and Such and Such, aka ASS Camp. I'll be back with them this year. The huge difference will be that my first year I knew no one in the camp. I'd meet the ringmaster and artist, Charlie Smith a few times briefly at local Atlanta events, and was Facebook friends with him and several other mutual acquaintances but that was about the extent of it.
Since then, I've gotten to know Charlie and several of the other members of the crew better over the years. This year, I'll be coming in with them early to help set up and be significantly more involved with camp duties and such than my first go-round.
I had planned on driving out with someone this year, in an effort to cut down on my driving miles which have in the past done quite a number on me physically and emotionally. And that plan was in full effect until Cindy and I determined that for several reasons it made sense for me to give Skye a lift to her Yellowstone "camp" (more on that in future blog).
Not only did that add another 5000 miles of solo driving to my situation, but it also necessitated me getting my hands on a vehicle pass as well as an early entry pass.
I put the word out there with my Burning Man community and within 12 hours; I had both.
Big Thanks to Cherry Bomb and Pink Lightning, the Burner Runners camp as well as Super John from the Funk Pirate gang.
It won't give me much time to get my stuff together once I'm back in Atlanta, but it's more normal than not; this way of packing up and heading out.
It started when Cindy and I were going from one job on location and got perfected over the years, selling homes, packing up our belongings and traveling across the country and world.
We still consider ourselves semi-nomadic, even though we are roots are beginning to take hold in the red Georgia earth.

June 28 at 8:24am · Aw, people are posting about buying their Burning Man tickets. I already miss it.
But I guess the other adventures we're having this year will have to do. They're still adventures, after all.
Jon Danniells And even though I said I definitely wasn't going this year; a change in recent circumstances might make it less definite ... ....Jon Danniells 2017...yes, let's get the band back together as it were; until then it looks like I'll be back with our friends over at ASS Camp
The tickets sold out in a half hour. I was unsuccessful in this ticket sale yet again.
