It has been a very, very busy month, actually a couple of months, seeing that my last post left off the evening I got back from driving a truck full of our stuff across the country.
November 8 at 9:06pm · Atlanta, GA ·
2200 miles and 10 states later, and I'm back in Atlanta and after 5 years we once again have all of our "stuff" in one state, heck in one city even. We'll see how long that lasts."
But that was just the beginning.
That was late on a Sunday night. I still had to unload and return the truck and I was starting a job, Monday morning the next day.
Good thing the storage units are conveniently located around 45 minutes east of where we live. They're close to where Cindy is working on Sleepy Hollow and they're cheap and you can drive right up to them and roll up the door(s).
So early Monday Cindy drops me off at the prop house where I left the truck, so I could unload the pallets that were keeping me from unloading our stuff and then off to the other side of town to offload as much as I could before heading over to my new job, leading on the Tupac bio-pic, All Eyes On Me.
November 9 · Atlanta, GA · Way back when the producers on Twin Peaks asked me to open a prop house, when I was in Mexico City at their one prop house, I found and "called out" a chair designed by a production designer I'd worked with in LA, we have had a car stored at a military museum in LA, our "stuff" stored at least in 5 prop houses across the country. Funny how one of my first and most memorable experiences was at Universal Studios "fake" prop house where I accidentally pulled into and ended up with a chandelier on my cube-van, minutes before the tour was scheduled to drive through aforementioned prop house. Not in a million years did I ever imagine my life to be so intertwined with prop houses. Funny twists of fate life hands you. Off to offload a couple pallets I hauled out from LA for an Atlanta prop house'
I've lead twice in the last few years, both times on Tier 1 projects, which pay less than standard. How our union managed to negotiate below our scale rates, our "minimum wage" as it were, is sort of beyond me. But that's an entirely different conversation.
In fact, the decision and implications of me leading again is also one that I will take up in more detail in the future.
But for now, I will make the statement and declaration that I am first and foremost seeking employment as a leadman.
I certainly wouldn't turn down the right decorating job, but for now I am focusing on rebuilding my "kit"; the tools of our trade that can make a job easier or harder, depending on the amount and appropriateness of the equipment. My most recent jobs weren't paying anything close to a fair rental for even the meager amount of tools and such that I had managed to put together, either by borrowing, renting or buying.
So unfortunately, the jobs were even harder than typical.
I wasn't going to let that happen again, but it was going to cost me, both financially as well as the time it would take to accumulate and organize.
And time was something I did not have.
Lucky for me, someone I knew was getting out of the lead person thing and getting rid of his entire kit.
And on another note, great more stuff
And what am I going to do with it all at the end of this project.
This dilemma of what to do with my kit in between jobs, coupled with how to go through all the stuff we had in the three storage facilities we were now renting, led to an interesting business idea.
More on that latter but I will go so far as to say it will be a shared workshop space alongside a sort of lounge / meeting area / library ensconced in a cabinet of curiosities with a mix of garage gym meets Victorian fitness and Strongman gear off in the corner.
A Jon-of All-Trades venture to be sure

November 28 · Atlanta, GA · Going through boxes, finding all sorts of blasts from the past
Just beginning to unload and go through a few boxes.
Only a couple of hundred, literally... left to go.
After many house hunting adventures, ranging from looking at a church, to lofts and condos, a variety of homes and even touring the Georgian hills for a cabin get-away, we decided or rather I decided I'd had enough.
It is an incredibly stressful affair and I needed to cut down on things that were wearing me down and stressing me out.
As soon as I say that Cindy finds an apartment just down the street that has enough going for it that she decides to at inquire to my willingness to put an end to the house-hunting moratorium.
Begrudgingly I agree and head down the street to check it out.
Lo and behold, she found something that hit enough things on our check-list to warrant pulling up stakes and making the move.
It is probably within a mile of our current place; Inman Park over to Old Fourth Ward
November 24 · Atlanta, GA · Moving again; gave notice and signed a new lease; begin the move on Black Friday, don't know if that means anything at all ; at least it's not that far from where we are now.
Oh goody, more packing and moving and well, its a good thing, I don't have much going on.
Speaking of nothing to do, besides a 65 hour a week job, training for a handful of marathons, starting a new business, packing and unpacking we are moving into the holiday season, full of parties, get-togethers and of course costume-themed pub-crawls.
My first Krampus and third or fourth Santacon.
December 20 at 9:44am · Atlanta, GA · Had a blast at Santacon last night; accommodations at our old apartment which was right down the street, less than ideal; heats off and almost everything is moved out; that bag by the way is one of my sandbags for working out; less comfy than my Clown Motel pillow; back to packing and finishing the move
Finally on Vacation, well almost.
More last-minute packing and unpacking and then packing for a 10 day trip to New York.
December 21 at 10:01pm · Atlanta, GA · After a pretty long day at worked(13 hrs more or less) what better thing to do than cap it off with continuing our moving extravaganza and a few hundred pounds of sandbags, kettle bells and a "baby" Thomas Inch style dumbbell (92lbs as opposed to 172 lbs)
Jon Danniells at Barcelona Inman Park.
